THE HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROJECT

USA * PALESTINE * ISRAEL * SYRIA * GERMANY * JORDAN * EGYPT * IRAQ * IRAN * YEMEN * SAUDI ARABIA

The purpose of the two-step “History Alive” project is to further the development of Western culture and Western society by spreading awareness about the ultimate importance of the cultural and historic heritage left by previous generations in the land of Israel.

The preparation of “History Alive” project began 62 years ago when its founder retired from the Army after WWII in 1946.  From then until 1973 he collected over 1000 glass negatives of the pictures of Holy Places in the Middle East from Baghdad to Red Sea and from Mecca to Mediterranean (including Old Palestine) taken circa 1850-1890-s.

The first step of “History Alive” project – “SACRUM SCRIPTUM” -  included detailed analysis of this collection.  By August 2007, geographic places, where pictures were taken, were unequivocally identified.  Existing images of the objects that did not change since ancient times, were linked to the appropriate verses of the Holy Bible.

As a result of the first step, the Holy Bible has been illustrated with 436 pictures of the Holy Places and is completely ready for the publication.  These pictures present to the reader the reality of human life as it was two thousand years ago during lifetime of Jesus Christ.

The second step of the “History Alive” project – “History in Reflections” – continued from December 2004 to March 2008.  This step included a significant expansion of our photography collection.

We worked with various sources including Armenian, Greek Orthodox and Latin Patriarchates in Jerusalem as well as with numerous private collectors in Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Israel.  We have supplemented the above collection with more than 1500 purchased or donated old photographs of sites in the Middle East related to the birth and spread of Christianity. These black-and-white pictures will be used in 10 volumes of artistic albums, where they will be accompanied with similar color views of the same places as they look now.  Each volume will contain more than 500 pages with 250 old and 250 new pictures (today’s picture will be always placed next to the old one to facilitate direct comparison).

Modern day pictures will be produced by professional photographers under guidance of local History and/or Natural History Museums.

In order to prevent unauthorized reproduction of these albums and copyright violations, printing will be carried out in Jerusalem.  The estimated number of copies for the albums will not exceed 20,000.
